Counseling Program Curriculum

The Counseling Program curriculum provides a solid foundation in statistics and research methodology and broad exposure to research and professional issues in counseling. It also helps students understand the role of culture in clinical science and practice. Each course teaches the student not only how to understand research in the area but also how to create new knowledge in that area.

In addition to the Counseling Program requirements, the accreditation standards of the American Psychological Association require counseling students to be exposed to the current body of knowledge in certain core areas. Courses satisfying these criteria are listed below; however, students may propose ways of gaining satisfactory exposure to these areas without taking courses. Program pre-approval of such arrangements is necessary.
