Ruth Speidel

Education: Georgetown University

Research Interests: Ruth’s research examines the individual and contextual factors that influence early cognitive and socioemotional development in young children, namely the development of child emotion and self-regulation. Her research focuses on early family-level processes and parent-child interaction and communication, and their implications for children’s developing regulation and internal working models. Particularly, she is interested in the nature of these processes within pathogenic family environments and in the context of early trauma, including among families with a history of maltreatment, and how this knowledge can inform interventions aimed at ameliorating negative developmental trajectories in at-risk children and families.
