Cognition, Brain, and Behavior

B.S. Computer Science, Geneva College; M.S. Cognitive Psychology in Context, Vanderbilt University Deans Fellowship recipient

Shelby is interested in the ways in which embodiment shapes a brain's conceptual understanding of the world throughout the lifespan. She is mentored in a lab which explores these questions through handwriting interventions, fMRI neuroimaging, and the observation of literacy acquisition from a developmental, learning-to-learn perspective. She is particularly interested in the potential of embodied models of cognition to inform the development of aligned artificial intelligence systems.
