DSG will host a talk by guest speaker Dr. David Bridgett, Northern Illinois University, on Tuesday, March 5, at 3:30 pm in 378 Corbett. His talk is titled "Contextual and Biological Mechanisms Underpinning the Intergenerational Transmission of Self-Regulation."
Abstract:
Poor self-regulation has been linked to notable outcomes of public health relevance across the life-span and has been implicated as a transdiagnostic risk factor for myriad forms of psychopathology. Thus, understanding the origins of self-regulation, and the mechanisms by which self-regulation is transmitted from parents to children, offers opportunities for identifying points of intervention/prevention for disrupting the transmission of poor self-regulation across generations, and improving the health and well-being of families and children. With a focus on executive functioning, and drawing from his recent and ongoing work, Dr. Bridgett’s lecture examines family environment, physiological and genetic influences that link parents’ self-regulation with children’s self-regulation.
