QSG presents Stefano Castruccio

-

Location: 378 Corbett Family Hall (View on map )

QSG this week features a talk by Stefano Castruccio. The title of the talk is “Modeling data in space and time beyond environmental problems: an application in Neuroscience.“ The abstract for the talk is given below.

Since its early developments more than thirty years ago, spatio-temporal statistics has been strongly focused on environmental problems, and most of its cornerstone advances have been aimed at providing optimal interpolated maps with increased degrees of flexibility. Only very recently the field has started to focus in other areas of science where the priority is not in producing maps. In this talk, I will present one of the first applications of a full spatio-temporal model in neuroscience, and in particular to whole-brain activity during an fMRI session, with the aim of controlling false positive rates with more accurate bounds than traditional non-spatio temporal methods. The paradigm I will show is broadly applicable to other areas of science where indexing in space and time is acknowledged to have a relevant role in the scientific conclusions.

QSG meets on Thursdays from 3:30-4:45pm in Corbett 378. All are welcome, and we hope to see you there.
