Cheng Liu

Biography

Cheng Liu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology. Previously, he served as an Associate Research Professor at the Lucy Family Institute for Data and Society, where he also led data science efforts as the Lead Data Scientist for the Center for Social Science Research. Prior to that, he worked as a Computational Scientist at the Center for Research Computing. Dr. Liu holds Ph.D. degrees in Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and in Statistics from the University of Notre Dame. Dr. Liu specializes in statistical modeling and computational infrastructure development, with extensive experience collaborating across disciplines. His research interests include change-point analysis, machine learning, item response theory, cognitive diagnosis modeling, educational and psychological measurement, research software and platform development, and modern AI technologies, particularly their application to advancing educational and psychological research.
