Katie's professional experience began in Chattanooga, TN. After working in a corporate setting as a sales analyst for McKee Foods, she taught psychology for several years at Tennessee Temple University and Cleveland State Community College, then moved to South Bend in 2017 to begin the program at Notre Dame. Her previous work includes research at the intersection of religion and mental health, particularly how religious individuals experience mental illness and how parent-child relationships impact religious development. Her current research program focuses on religious and spiritual development during adolescence and emerging adulthood, particularly as it relates to identity development and individuation. Her dissertation explores how college students develop a spiritual identity and how this spiritual identity contributes to religious identity salience.
