Khirsten J. Wilson's work focuses on advancing knowledge through community engaged and culturally responsive research to promote psychological health and well-being for Black youth in the United States. She is interested in socioecological approaches to understanding the nature in which intrinsic (e.g., impulsivity) and extrinsic factors (e.g., concentrated poverty, community violence) interact and influence the development of chronic psychopathology, including risk of suicidality, amongst Black youth in under-resourced communities. Her research seeks to identify mechanisms that leverage social support (e.g., community cohesion, non-biological kinships) in longitudinal mental health promotion amongst youth residing in high-stress environments.
