Study Abroad

The Department of Psychology encourages our majors to participate in international travel and research wherever possible through study abroad programs.  The department allows six credits of preapproved major courses from study abroad programs to count towards the major requirements.

While there are a number of study abroad programs that have excellent course offerings for psychology majors, the major is flexible enough that with some early planning, students may study abroad in locations that do not have psychology course offerings.

The following locations have strong psychology departments with an excellent list of course offerings:

  • St. Andrews, Scotland
  • Trinity College, Dublin
  • University College, Dublin

The following locations typically do offer some selection in terms of psychology courses:

  • London
  • Rome
  • Puebla, Mexico
  • Toledo

How to prepare to study abroad

All students who plan to study abroad must meet with both their advising dean (in the college of their primary major) as well as with their major advisors. For the meeting with the major advisor for approval, students need to begin the application and identify their major advisor in the application to trigger the approval email that the system sends to the advisor. Once students have done this, they can set up an advising meeting with the major advisor.

Schedule a meeting with Prof. Anre Venter, director of undergraduate studies.

Note that if any of the available times do not meet your schedule, please email Prof. Venter with a range of days/times that you are free, and he will set up a meeting with you.
